 Welcomes you to Collingswood
Population: 14,083
Collingswood is a wonderful historic town minutes from Center
City Philadelphia via car or PATCO Hi-speedline. Every style of architecture
can be found here, with many victorian, colonial and bungalow style homes, among
others. Each built with the craftmanship of a bygone era. With recent attention
given to the revitalization of established older neighborhoods, Collingswood
is has renewed its charm as residents, old and new, are restoring and improving
their vintage homes. In 2006, Philadelphia Magazine ranked Collingswood number
one in the region for price growth of homes and property.
Collingswood boasts a thriving centralized downtown, with boutiques, services,
and a multitude of highly regarded restaurants serving almost every type of
cuisine you can imagine. Collingswood also claims the most energetic calendar
of family-oriented events in the area, including a thriving farmers' market,
Mayfair, Book Fair, and the largest Thanksgiving Weekend Parade in South Jersey.
A beautiful 64-acre park in the center of town is the center of much of the
town's recreational activities, with numerous sports fields and a jogging path.
The town pool features an Olympic-size lap pool and is undergoing improvments
for the 2008 season. The borough recently added a modern Community Center facility
and maintains a beautiful historic theater that features national and local
acts as well as the town's community theater performances.
There are 5 small elementary schools, allowing a school within walking distance from every home,
and one of the area's only full day kindergarten curriculums with before- and after-care programs in
each. The public school system provides pre-K programs for children of special
needs as well. Middle and High school has approximately 200 students per grade
and is about to complete an extensive project to upgrade both with state-of-the-art
facilities. Newton Creek borders Collingswood, and a county park program provides a
picturesque path for walking, biking, and other recreation. Cooper
River Park, also maintained by the county park system, also borders Collingswood. It offers a 3.8 mile paved loop for walking and jogging, seasonal Crew regattas and concerts, a public launch, a public driving range and a large children's playground. The Cooper River Yacht club, available to the public, is located on the Collingswood side of the River.
